Litter picking for The Grace School

You might be aware that each year two gentlemen from Basildon spend many days of their time collecting rubbish, little and quite literally ‘all-sorts’ from the verges, hedges and paths around our lovely villages with the aim of raising money for a building project at The Grace School in Siyabuswa, South Africa, to provide the children and local community with a great facility it currently lacks: a kitchen and multi-purpose dining hall. Children will not only be fed well each day, but will learn how to grow their own food, prepare, cook and serve it, and hopefully even man the town's first coffee shop and restaurant at weekends. Local people will be trained to run it, creating much-needed employment. The hall would serve many school uses too, e.g. for assemblies, performances and meetings.

This year Roger Hovell and Richard Hudson have now picked up the equivalent of over 400 supermarket bags of litter (408 and rising), well beyond their target. Whilst this is an amazing achievement, the donations for doing so are well below the target this time and, even when Gift Aid is added, they are still £627 short of the £2000 they had hoped for.

(By comparison, last year we were able to raise £2951).

If you’re in a position to be able to contribute, please do so through the stewardship page here: http://stewardship.org.uk/pages/GraceSchool2022

Alternatively, cheques can be made out to ‘Worldshare’ and dropped at the vicarage or with Mr Hudson. If you want to discuss it more, please feel free to get in touch directly with Richard 01491 671365

Thank you!
