Dear Friends,
It’s beginning to look a lot like Advent!
This Sunday is known as the 1st Sunday of Advent and we begin to ramp up our celebrations heading towards Christmas Day. Each Sunday between now and Christmas Day, we will light our Advent wreath candles. Each of the four Sundays reminds us of those who prepared for the coming of Christ. ‘The Patriarchs’ can naturally focus on Abraham and David. ‘The Prophets’ gives an opportunity to reflect on the way the birth of the Messiah was foretold. John, who proclaimed the Saviour, and Mary, who bore him in her womb, complete the picture (and the wreath). Why not join us one Sunday to hear a little more of the good news story. In fact, across the villages this year there are so many wonderful and varied services and events - far too many to name here - which will speak of love and hope - so do check them out by clicking the link below.
To help us get ready in Basildon, this Saturday 26th from 2pm-4pm we are gathering for a couple of hours to build some huge Christmas wreaths which will be installed in the church as part of the Christmas decorations this year. There will be mulled wine and a bit of Christmas music so do pop along with some gardening gloves and secateurs - we’d love to see you.
Love and blessings,
Grant
SERVICES THIS WEEKEND
An Advent bible reading:
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - John 1:9-12
