Marking the start of Lent - Ash Wednesday
Join us for a communion service at St. Clement’s Ashampstead as we mark the beginning of Lent. This wonderful service includes the ‘imposition of ashes’. This is where the sign of the cross is marked upon the forehead in ash (sometime called 'ashing') – though it is not obligatory. Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence; from the middle ages it became the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross.
10am at St.Clement’s, Ashampstead
Wednesday 2nd March.
Imposition of Ashes.
Collect prayer for Ash Wednesday
Holy God,
our lives are laid open before you:
rescue us from the chaos of sin
and through the death of your Son
bring us healing and make us whole
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
