Marking the start of Lent - Ash Wednesday
Please join us at 10 am for a Zoom Holy Communion: you will be very welcome!
Collect your 'Ash Card' from one of the three Benefice churches beforehand - then you can use the ash cross on the card during the service, to 'self-ash' (!).

If you don’t have time to get to church to pick up an 'Ash Card', we suggest burn a few matches and mix with a tiny drop of oil (the ash cards in the churches have crosses made with palm ash and consecrated oil).
The service will include marking a cross with ash (sometime called 'ashing') – though it is not obligatory – and this year on zoom we sadly cannot do in person - hence the idea of the 'Ash cards'.
Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence; from the middle ages it became the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross.
Collect prayer for Ash Wednesday
Holy God,
our lives are laid open before you:
rescue us from the chaos of sin
and through the death of your Son
bring us healing and make us whole
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
