Adam Carlill was brought up with one foot in the Methodist Church and the other in the Church of England. He joined the local church choir when he was eight. He received his BA in theology at Keble College, Oxford in 1987, before spending a year as the Dean's volunteer at St George's Anglican Cathedral in Jerusalem. After training for Anglican ministry at Lincoln Theological College Adam was made deacon in 1990. After a second curacy in Uckfield (East Sussex), he became Vicar of St George's Tilehurst (Berkshire) in 1998, where he has been serving ever since, becoming additionally Vicar of the neighbouring parish of St Mary Magdalen's Tilehurst a few years later.
Adam received his DPhil in Old Testament Theology in 2013 at St Peter's Hall, Oxford, under the supervision of Prof. John Day, subsequently becoming a member of The Society for Old Testament Study. In 2018 Adam published an unabridged metrical translation of the Hebrew Psalter, Psalms for the Common Era, which has received an enthusiastic welcome in many churches across the globe.
Michael Penny was born in Ebbw Vale, Gwent, Wales in 1943. He read Mathematics at the University of Reading, before teaching for twelve years and becoming the Director of Mathematics and Business Studies at Queen Mary’s College Basingstoke in Hampshire, England. In 1978 he entered Christian publishing, and in 1984 became the administrator of the Open Bible Trust. He held this position for seven years, before moving to the USA and becoming pastor of Grace Church in New Berlin, Wisconsin. He returned to Britain in 1999, and is at present the Administrator and Editor of The Open Bible Trust. In 2010 he was elected Chairman of Churches Together in Reading, where he speaks in a number of churches of different denominations. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee to Reading University Christian Union. He lives near Reading with his wife Sylvis and has appeared on BBC Radio Berkshire and Premier Radio a number of times.
